Wolfgang (2023)
Screenprint on cotton and secondhand tees
Taking to his instagram in July, Shirt announced he bootlegged the t-shirt he saw one of his favorite photographers, Wolfgang Tillmans wearing, and that it would be available for sale in a few days. Some hours later Wolfgang Tillmans himself, who Shirt did not know personally, commented on Shirt’s post explaining that the t-shirt’s design was from a professor and students (Class of Heiner Blum) at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach in Germany circa 2005-2008, and that they gave him some samples when he was teaching at Staedelschule Frankfurt nearby. Tillman’s further remarked “they never tried to launch it commercially for obvious reasons, but it’s perfect for bootlegging,” and that he’d like to buy one. Originally selling only the brown color, a small number of 1 of 1’s made on vintage Nike and adidas tees were also made available.
