The 11-track rap LP was released to digital streaming platforms February 9, 2018, by the record label Third Man Records, after Shirt had teased the full-length project throughout 2017. Executive-produced by Shirt working and coordinating with various beatmakers and musical contributors from around the world, the LP is the first album by the artist written and recorded outside of the US, with Shirt’s performances recorded primarily from a recording studio on campus at his Master in Fine Arts program. The neon square served as the cover image for all digital outlets. The album was released alongside the first single and video “Flight Home” and a press announcement that Shirt was the first rapper to sign to Third Man Records--an independent record label based in Detroit’s Cass Corridor founded by the rock and roll producer Jack White--however after streaming for several months the record was taken down off digital platforms with no explanation. The album’s opening cut “Snowbeach” starts with a verse performed by the rapper Chase, Shirt's barber, and the record closes with a song “Mise En Abyme” that includes a recorded conversation between Shirt and the French artist Marie Matusz. “Mise En Abyme” along with the songs “Energy” and “Climate Change” have appeared back on streaming platforms in recent years.
