Maya Taqueria Bag is part of Shirt’s series of pearled garbage works, in which pieces of garbage selected and saved by the artist undergo a process of being “pearled,” meaning flat-sided cabochon pearls are glued to the object. The title here references a favorite Mexican restaurant of Shirt’s in Brooklyn, NY.
The work debuted in the group exhibition Island Letter at CC Projects gallery June 14-July 9, 2023. More information about the show can be found here.
