Outside All Of This (2019)
Found binoculars

Debuting as one of three new works in the group exhibition Of Color at Helmhaus Museum in Zurich, Switzerland, the binoculars sat on a plinth by a window in the main gallery. Viewers were encouraged by the artist and museum attendants to pick up the binoculars and use them to look out at the busy town where, in the artist’s words, “the real art lies.” Painting works on location at the museum the night before, Shirt placed several pieces around the Limmat River in view from the window. Viewers who searched the landscape would come to find pieces left unattended along the river.
