LA Listening (2017)

Performance, acrylic on wall surface, 12 hours

A day after meeting the artist John Baldessari, Shirt began a performance painting "I will not make any more boring rap" across the length of a gallery wall in West Hollywood, timing it so that painting through the night the doors would open to the public right when he was about halfway done. While painting, Shirt offered anyone who came to the space a first listen to his upcoming album, playing out of speakers in multiple rooms. Throughout the day people came in and talked to the artist, watched him work, and listened to the music. Other works exhibited in the space were a gold record plaque for Flume and Shirt's "On Top" that hung backwards on the wall, a clothing rack of tees and hoodies for sale, a found boom box, and sculptures displayed in the bathroom and roof.
