The t-shirt was made by Shirt in his apartment in Queens using an iron-on heat transfer method. Realizing although many iterations of bootleg Nike and adidas t-shirts existed in streetwear culture for 25+ years, Shirt had yet to see anyone simply put the two famous logos––unmodified––side by side centered on a tee. Wearing the sample around NYC, the public’s reaction led to Shirt deciding to take the idea further; envisioning and later designing and releasing a capsule collection consisting of various graphic t-shirts and embroidered hoodies that begin to sell quickly. The long sleeve white tee (pictured above) was the first made available for purchase. As the idea gained steam and websites and social media accounts with large followings started posting information about the collection, Nike sent a cease and desist order claiming Shirt had been making ‘counterfeit Nike product’, a claim the artist refuted immediately. A newly launched website for purchasing nikeadidasshirt.com was active for a limited time.
