In 2017, with Art Basel starting in the city that week, Shirt moved his 14-foot Blue Nude III sculpture against a small building on the Rhine River in Basel, Switzerland. It remained unscathed until 42 days later. After that the work disappeared. Continuing to explore the forms and materiality of Henri Matisse’s ubiquitous cut-outs, the replicated Blue Nude III, 1952, was completed by Shirt over Christmas break in 2016 after finding the piece of wood marked to be thrown away on campus months before. No attempts by the artist have been made to locate the work since it was discovered to be lost.
